Real-world insights

Meet GeoTag

GeoTag is a location-based platform being developed to encourage people to get out, move more and discover more of what is already around them.

Using physical and virtual GeoTags, local challenges and interactive experiences, people could explore their community, earn points, discover places and find activities happening nearby.

But GeoTag is designed to go much further than a location-based game.

The bigger idea is to create a digital layer across a local area, helping connect residents with the places, organisations and opportunities around them.v

One platform. A whole local area.

Many of the things that contribute to healthier communities already exist, but they often operate separately.

GeoTag is being designed to help bring them together.
  • Public HealthSupporting healthier, more active communities.
  • Active TravelEncouraging more walking, cycling and scooting.
  • EducationEngaging schools, young people and families.
  • ParksHelping people discover and make greater use of local green spaces.
  • Place IntelligenceHelping local organisations understand how people engage with their area.

Making everyday journeysmore active

GeoTag could help make everyday movement more engaging.

That could include encouraging children and families to walk, cycle or scoot to and from school, creating local walking challenges or encouraging people to choose active ways of travelling between community destinations.

Local areas could create GeoTags and challenges around schools, parks, leisure facilities
and other locations, helping make movement part of everyday life.

Walk. Cycle. Scoot. Explore.

Help people discover what isalready around them

There is often far more happening locally than people realise.

GeoTag could help bring local opportunities together and make them easier to discover.

Instead of expecting people to search across multiple websites, social media pages and directories, GeoTag could help people discover opportunities as they explore their local area.

Understand how peopleengage with place

GeoTag is being designed to provide local partners with useful insight into participation and engagement.
The aim is to help organisations understand not only what programmes and opportunities exist, but how people are actually engaging with them.

2027 Founding Area Programme

Become one of the first areas to introduce GeoTag

We’re looking for a limited number of towns and areas to work with as GeoTag moves towards launch in 2027.

Founding Areas will have the opportunity to:

● Help shape how GeoTag is implemented locally
● Identify schools, clubs, facilities and community organisations to involve
● Explore active travel opportunities
● Develop local challenges and experiences
● Identify suitable GeoTag locations
● Be among the first areas to launch GeoTag
● Receive preferential Founding Area terms
