About Movela Health
Technology that helps people move, connect and discover.
Movela Health is a UK digital health business developing practical, engaging technology that connects people with movement, local places and opportunities within their communities.
Our first focus is GeoTag—an interactive activity platform designed to turn parks, streets and everyday community spaces into reasons to get outside, explore and keep moving.
Why we started
Being more active is not always about knowing what to do. For many people, the harder part is finding the motivation to begin, having a reason to go somewhere or knowing what opportunities already exist nearby.
At the same time, councils, Active Partnerships, schools and community organisations need affordable ways to engage people and better understand how local activity programmes are being used.
Movela Health was created to connect those two needs: giving people a more rewarding way to explore while providing delivery partners with useful insight into participation and engagement.
What is GeoTag?
GeoTag is being developed as a free-to-play mobile activity experience.
People will be able to use the GeoTag map to discover physical NFC tags and virtual location-based tags placed throughout a participating area. By walking, cycling or scooting to different locations, they can collect points, complete challenges, earn achievements and follow their progress.
The planned experience includes:
- Physical and virtual location-based tags
- Points, achievements and activity streaks
- Individual and team challenges
- Global and private leaderboards
- Seasonal augmented reality experiences
- Progress and participation statistics
- Information about nearby clubs, facilities and activities
Augmented reality will allow experiences to change throughout the year, with content themed around occasions such as Christmas, Halloween, summer activities and local events.
GeoTag can also help people discover what else is available nearby—from tennis clubs and walking groups to leisure facilities and community events—with useful information about where activities take place and how to get involved.
Built around real places
GeoTag is not intended to replace local activity programmes. It is designed to connect them.
Each activation can be shaped around the places, priorities and communities within a particular area. That could mean encouraging people to explore local parks, supporting active travel, creating a school challenge or helping residents discover activities they did not know were available.
The aim is to create permanent digital infrastructure that can continue to support new challenges, campaigns and experiences rather than disappearing after one event.
Useful insight for local partners
Encouraging participation is only part of the challenge. Understanding what people engage with—and what brings them back—is also important.
GeoTag is being designed to give delivery partners access to information such as:
- Active users and repeat participation
- Popular and underused tag locations
- Engagement at different times of day
- Challenge participation
- Movement and route patterns
- Baseline and follow-up survey responses
- Downloadable data for local evaluation
This information is intended to help organisations improve delivery and understand engagement. Any claims about changes in health or physical activity will need to be supported through appropriately designed pilots and evaluation.
Designed with communities, not just for them
We believe the strongest version of GeoTag will be shaped alongside the organisations and communities that may eventually use it.
That means listening to local priorities, understanding accessibility needs and learning what information delivery partners genuinely require.
We want GeoTag to be:
- Simple and enjoyable to use
- Accessible to different ages and abilities
- Adaptable to different places and priorities
- Affordable for local organisations
- Responsible in how it handles personal and location information
- Capable of providing useful evidence without creating unnecessary complexity
Where we are now
GeoTag is currently in development.
We have created an interactive app experience to demonstrate how the platform could work, but it is not yet the finished app. Features, designs and user journeys may evolve through development, testing and feedback from founding partners.
We are now beginning conversations with organisations interested in helping shape GeoTag through the 2027 Founders Programme.
The 2027 Founders Programme
The Founders Programme is for councils, Active Partnerships, schools, public health teams, employers and community organisations interested in exploring what a GeoTag activation could look like in their area.
Founding organisations will have the opportunity to influence areas including:
- The participant experience
- Local challenges and activities
- Accessibility and inclusion
- Reporting and evaluation
- Community information and directories
- The structure of a potential 2027 activation
You do not need a completed brief to begin a conversation. Tell us about your area, the people you want to reach and what you would like to achieve.
